Adverse food reactions due to the presence of antibiotic residues in the dog diet: a preliminary study
Over the past few decades, adverse food reactions have increased considerably in dogs and cats. In this study we report the onset of food intolerance symptoms, including otitis, diarrhea, generalized anxiety and dermatitis in a group of 8 dogs fed commercial diets. These dogs, after being examined at the veterinary hospital of the University of Sassari, received a diet based on organic chicken for 15 days. Blood biochemical parameters, kibble composition, and serum oxytetracycline (OTC) concentration were assessed before and after 15 days of organic chicken diet.
