ARKTIKA 2.0 – Gilles Elkaim
In the last episode we left you in the shadows of a great forthcoming journey, with an extreme explorer and the woman he loves preparing to face a slew of glacial hazards.
His name is Gilles Elkaim, born in 1960, and studied as a physicist. He's the main character of the adventure we're narrating for you, at the core of its intents and ideals, around whom we will see other players - in no way less important - gather as the story unfolds.
The link between Gilles and the northern ice began back in 1984 when, at age 24, he went to Greenland to live in an Inuit village. In the year he spent there, he learned their language, how to steer the sled dogs and hunting. It is the first of a series of extreme expeditions where man finds himself alone in front of the wild and wonderful power of Nature.
In order to survive what Nature herself will put in his path, Gilles has entrusted his life to the paws of his faithful dogs, the traveling companions who can alert him to many dangers, and at the same time supportive friends during the long days of solitude. Tasks that require great strength, not only physical but also of the mind, endowed to them by our FORZA10 diets, which make us a sort of participant and co-stars in this adventure.
Gilles has planted firm roots — with the dogs — in a village in Finnish Lapland, where his herd of sled dogs is the only one in the world for the conservation of the endangered Siberian breeds. There he introduces his world to tourists, presenting them his faithful friends, including a sleigh ride and a plate of steaming soup.
Today the preparations are abuzz, and from his cold dwelling Gilles awaits the fateful D-Day, to start his next expedition.
