Conjunctivitis in cats - the Persian breed: causes and remedies
Persian cat conjunctivitis: a common problem
Persian cats have a moody character and are known to be brachycephalic, with a crushed snout and big eyes protruding from the skull. This protrusion leads to the eyes being particularly exposed and vulnerable, and consequently more affected by environmental factors such as mites, dust, dry air and the hair on its own face.
Numerous scientific studies conducted by the SANYpet Research and Development Department have highlighted the link between foods contaminated with chemical additives and drug residues, and the onset of numerous disorders affecting dog and cat health.
These elements cannot be digested by the body, as they don’t exist in nature and their intake causes inflammatory process which can affect any organ, but in particular that most sensitive to the cat (the target organ).
With Persian cats the target organ is specifically the eye, which is particularly vulnerable. If you add this natural predisposition to an incorrect diet it is thus much easier that eye problems emerge, leading to conjunctivitis in cats.
Persian cat conjunctivitis: the solution
To solve this problem just remove the source of inflammation, choosing a food without pollutants, with clean ingredients and with the power of botanicals, thereby restoring the eye’s regular function and supporting its physiology.
This is why we created FORZA10 Hypoallergenic Active, a complete dietetic food formulated by SANYpet’s Research and Development Department, offering adult cats a specific protection of the intestine, skin and skin appendages (anal glands), mouth, eyes and nose.
Allergic conjunctivitis
Allergic conjunctivitis in dogs is very common and is due to a reaction to food, contact or inhalation. It manifests with ocular redness, increased lachrymation and discomfort that can stimulate the dog to try to scratch the eye. In light-colored dogs it’s easy to recognize as, beyond the conjunctivitis, the interdigital hair, between the paw’s spaces, reddens due to licking. Furthermore, in some periods of the year, ie. those in which there are more environmental allergens, the symptomatology may intensify.

To solve this problem just remove the source of inflammation, choosing a food without pollutants, with clean ingredients and with the power of botanicals, thereby restoring the eye’s regular function and supporting its physiology. This is why we created the FORZA10 Ophtalmic diet as a nutritional support in disorders involving the eyes, as well as in all cases involving food intolerances affecting dogs’ visual apparatus.
Immune-mediated Conjunctivitis
Dogs also suffer Immune-mediated Conjunctivitis, linked to a disfunction of the immune system, such as plasma cellular conjunctivitis or plasmoma, in association with forms of Chronic Superficial Keratitis (an inflammation of the cornea whereby the cornea does not remain transparent but becomes brown).
As for allergic conjunctivitis, SANYpet’s Research and Development Department’s scientific studies defined an "incorrect" diet as the cause of immune system malfunctioning, which attacks the dog itself, always attacking the weakest organ (the target organ).
The breeds most predisposed for such forms are German shepherds, Belgian shepherds, Borzoi, Dobermans, Collies and English springer spaniels.
Dry keratoconjunctivitis
Dry keratoconjunctivitis is a dog pathology in which the immune system attacks the lacrimal glands, causing eye dryness and consequently an inflamed cornea and conjunctiva.
The breeds most affected by this problem are: Pug, Shih Tzu, Pekinese, Maltese, American Cocker and Spaniel, Cavalier King, English Bulldog, Lhassa Apso, Boston Terrier, Neapolitan Mastiff and West Highland White Terrier.§
The solution
Here again to solve this problem just remove the source of inflammation, choosing a food without pollutants, with clean ingredients and with the power of botanicals, thereby restoring the immune system’s balance.
Consequently, we created FORZA10 Immuno Active, a diet which effectively helps to support the dog's immune system, with visible improvements in a few weeks and without transitional periods from previous foods. This food’s efficacy has been scientifically demonstrated by SANYpet’s Research and Development Department, which has published two studies of undoubted value and prestige within internationally recognized scientific journals.
- Scientific research on dry keratoconjunctivitis - FORZA10 Immuno Active has proven, as a nutritional tool combined with conventional therapy, to significantly reduce the progression of this real pest, whose current therapeutic protocol is clearly insufficient.
- Scientific research on leishmania - An immunomodulatory diet can support conventional drug therapy by increasing regulatory T cells and reducing the inflammatory response linked to T helper type 1 cells in dogs with Leishmania.
